For anyone who might be interested in attending a meeting at the Food Bank in September, to discuss a Fellside Food Bank the following are the details:
Meeting Details
-
Date & Time: Friday, 11th September at 2:00 PM
-
In-Person Location: The Salvation Army Church, Hunter Lane, Penrith, CA11 7UY (Drovers Lane Car Park is directly behind the church with an exit onto Hunter’s Lane).
-
Virtual Option (Microsoft Teams): Join Meeting | ID: 348 617 345 138 106 | Passcode: tH24iX7o
Context & The Issue
-
Hidden Need: Over the past 18 months, the Alston and Fellside Place Action Group has identified hidden pockets of poverty in the otherwise affluent Fellside area. This is supported by evidence from farming groups, schools, and the local benefits team. (Alston Moor’s needs are already handled by the Alston Foodbank).
-
The Rural Barrier: Penrith Foodbank serves the Fellside area, but transport barriers make it difficult for rural residents to get into Penrith. The cost-of-living crisis has forced many to choose between heating, eating, and the high cost of rural travel.
Meeting Objectives
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss:
-
Delivery Service: Setting up a collaborative delivery service with Penrith Foodbank to bring support directly to the Fellside area.
-
Awareness & Donations: Developing an advertising strategy to ensure Fellside residents know how to access help, and to drive local foodbank donations.
-
Funding Approval: Discussing how to utilize £2,000 allocated by the Place Action Group (currently held and ringfenced by Alston Moor Foodbank). Because original plans have shifted, the group will need to agree on a way forward to present to the full Place Action Group for final sign-off.
Note: Recipients are encouraged to forward this invitation to anyone in the Alston and Fellside ward who might be interested in helping.
