EEMC Choir

St. Nicholas Church, Lazonby.

7:15pm, Thursday evenings

Background

The East of Eden Mission Community Choir draws its singers from the communities all along the northern Pennine reaches of the Eden Valley, from Penrith in the west to Alston Moor in the east. The choir was formed after a successful gospel singing workshop in March 2017, to provide an opportunity for members of the local community to enjoy group singing and fellowship. Anyone is welcome to join the choir; there are no auditions and all ability levels are catered for. Practices are held on alternate Thursday evenings in Lazonby Church, and aim to be enjoyable for all. The choir is conducted by Ruth Houston, ably accompanied on piano by Nora Tweedie.

Concerts & Fundraising

The choir rehearses for two major fundraising concerts each year, in midsummer and at Christmas, supplemented by other performances for special occasions. The profits from all our performances, after deducting expenses, are donated to local good causes. To date we have raised funds for:

  • Lazonby Church clock
  • NISCU Eden
  • Alston Moor Foodbank
  • Eden Valley Friends of Dementia UK
  • Langwathby Playground (PLAY)
  • Langwathby Village Hall Roof Fund
  • Penrith Mountain Rescue
  • Lazonby Swimming Pool
  • St Cuthbert’s Church renovations
  • Pot Place Ukraine Appeal
  • The Church of St John the Evangelist, Plumpton

Joining the choir is easy!

Our rehearsal dates are advertised every month in all the main local newsletters. Please feel free just to come along and join us. Rehearsals start at 7.30pm, and you will find a warm welcome if you come along at 7.15pm when tea and coffee are being served.

If you have any queries in the meantime, please phone Ruth Houston on 01768 885669 or email.
