There will be a special Council meeting on Tuesday 10th Sept at 7-9pm at Hunsonby Community Centre to discuss the vacancy for a Pioneer Minister.
You will recall that Andrew Burrell was appointed to this role in 2022 and left us in April 2023. Andrew’s appointment was a part time (50%) role but Andrew was also a self-supporting curate so gave us additional support. Due to the generosity of the Methodist Church in wishing to co-fund a pioneer minster, we are able to fund a full time role (assuming, like Andrew’s, it is a lay appointment). We advertised the vacancy last year, and made an offer, but the candidate withdrew. During the discussions about Katharine’s replacement it has been suggested that we should consider a part-time ordained role rather than a full time lay role (the cost of an ordained minister is much higher).
We have been advised that we need to be very clear about what we wish to achieve before we advertise again. We have therefore invited Richard Passmore, Director of the Northern Mission Centre, to lead a discussion. Following the meeting, once we have agreed what we want, we hope to be able to advertise the post without further delay. We hope that all congregations will be represented: everyone is welcome.
The meeting will also be an opportunity to provide an update on the appointment process for the Joint Mission Community Leaders.
